Abstract
A good translation is a translation of which is able to convey the messages, thoughts, idea, and concepts from the source language thoroughly and correctly. However, adjusting one’s thought in other expression may not be an easy job. It also seems rather difficult to find another word for replacing the same idea or even resembling the original expression or what is usually called as source language. Implicit meaning in a text, sometime, becomes one problem for a translator to face, since his or her job to deliver an author message without changing its original text is also a must. This study was conducted to find out how implicit meaning in a novel entitled The Alchemist by Paulo Choelo are translated into Indonesian and discover some aspects appear as consideration in translation of implicit meaning. In doing this study, the writer used descriptive qualitative approach and implicit meaning theory by Larson. Based on the data collected, the writer found that that the translator makes adjustments in translating sentences with implicit meanings, while as consideration for the translation of implicit meaning in this novel, the writer concluded that it occur for avoiding misunderstanding in comprehending the content of the text, producing as closely as possible an equal sense of word for the joy of reading and adjusting the grammatical system of the Source Language to the Target Language.
