Abstract

Yacoubian Building novel written by Alaa Al Aswany is novel which captures some issues about the illness of Egypt, such as the religious extremism, prostitution and drug use among the upper classes, political corruption, sexual repression and homosexuality. The research aim is to identify the representation of a religious extremism as a victim of the violation of police officers. Another aim was to look for the main character’s view toward religious extremism. In addition, it would be described the effect of the emergence of religious extremism to its society in the novel. To get the data the writer uses the descriptive method by library research includes of the websites sources in finding the brief explanation about the religious extremism itself. By intrinsic study, the writer would explore some important elements of the novel. But it would be limited to the characterization of the main character, how the main character views religious extremism; the setting related religious extremism; the plot and conflicts; and the pattern of actions. Finally, the results revealed the inequality treatments of Egypt nation influence the rebellion of victimized people that involved to religious extremism.
