Abstract
Exam affect the opinions and perceptions of 12th grade students in SMA Negeri 1 Sidoarjo. This study also intends to find out what factors that may affect the students’ perception. To support this research, writer uses one of the theories in Language Testing and Assessment, called Face Validity. Respondents of the study are students from all available department in the school who have score as same as school’s average score. In addition, writer also interviews teacher in order to get additional input for this study. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach, so that writer would be able to dig deeper into students’ responses and reactions. This study found that nearly 75% of respondents did not agree if national exam already were determinant tool of graduation. Factors that influence their opinion was, that the test did not have clear objectives, coupled with the facts of cheating during the exam process, such as the leaked answers in the examination room. Since the latest curriculum combines the national exam scores and school’s score, most of respondents felt normal when they face national exam. The fact that school also prepared them both from cognitive and affective side also helps them to be calmer at that time.
