Abstract
Being a mother is not an easy job to do. Moreover, if the mother has a child with special need. The mother has to gives extra attention and provides certain treatment to communicate toward the child. The communication between the mother and the child would not be easy and use certain type of speech characteristic concerning to the child's language ability. This study explain about the intonation types that the mother uses in their daily conversation toward her 3 year old hearing impaired child. By using Well's (2006) theory, the intonation that the mother use in her utterances could be identified and analyzed. The conversation was taken in three session, they are feeding time, playing time, and studying time. Those three conversations are taped and transcribed before identifying the types of intonation that the mother uses. To identifying the intonations, we need software called Praat. Before inserting the sounds into Praat, the recording have to be converted into WA V files using Fonnat Factory software. The recording of the conversations could be identified by using Praat. After seeing the result of the intonation Praat, we can clearly identified the types of the intonation that the mother uses in her daily conversations. The result of the identification is the mother uses all of the types of intonations. The most dominant intonation is the fall one. Even the child has hearing impairment, it does not mean that the rise intonation could be dominated in the mother's utterances.
