Abstract
This study was conducted to analyze the types of slips of the tongue produced by Indonesian radio news announcers of Suara Surabaya radio. Slip of the tongue is a mistake while producing speech and it is not our intention. In Psycholinguistics study, slip of the tongue is under the discussion of speech production. Slip of the tongue is quite normal in daily speech since it happens to the speaker on the several occasions. Tiult kind of error may happen to anyone, including radio news announcer who infonn the traffic jam, weather, and other events. The method that the writer used is qualitative approach. Kelana Kota is the program in Suara Surabaya radio that the writer focuses on because it represents the characteristic of this radio station. Kelana Kota gives the infonnation to the listeners about traffic jam and other events in Surabaya. The data was anal}'7.ed using the types of slips of the tongue based on Fromkin (1973) and Harley's (1995) theory. Based on the findings, there are eight out of thirteen types of slips of the tongue produced by Indonesian radio news announcers. The writer concluded that the most frequent type is word substitution (36%), followed by phoneme deletion (34%), phoneme anticipation (8%), affix deletion (8%), misderivations (4%), phoneme perseveration (4%), word exchange (4%), and word blend (2%).
