Abstract

Background: Sexually transmisted infections still becoming health problem in many countries. Most people with this disease are adolescents aged 15-24 years. One of the reason is low level of adolescent knowledge. In addition to adolescents, LGBTs are also at high risk of sexually transmitted infections. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge about sexually tran.smitted infections with attitudes toward LGBT behavior in adolescents in SMA Trimurti Surabaya. Methods: This study was an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach. The population were Trimurti students. The sample are 96 students who were selected by random sampling technique based on list of attendees. The independent variable was knowledge of sexually transmitted infections while the dependent variable was attitude toward LGBT behavior. To analyze the result, the data was collected through questionnaire and tested by Chi¬.square with significant level a = 0.05. Results: Found that 34 respondents (35,4%) have good knowledge of sexually transmitted infections, 54 respondents with average knowledge (56,3%), and 8 respondents with less knowledge (8,3%). While adolescents who have positive attitudes toward LGBT was 54 respondents (56,3%), meanwhile 42 respondents (43,8%) have negative attitudes toward LGBT. Chi-square test results obtained no significant relationship between knowledge about sexually transmitted infeclions with attitudes toward LGBT behavior with p value = 0.582 ,> 0.05). Conclusion: Knowledge of sexually transmitted infections was not related to attitudes toward LGBT behavior .
