Abstract

The current approach of fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology (FNAC) diagnosis of the thyroid nodule poses difficulties to differentiate follicular adenoma, follicular carcinoma and some cases of adenomatous goiter. The FNAC smears of follicular adenoma and follicular carcinoma have the same appearrence such as hypercellularity, present of microfollicle structure and follicular pattern with sy ncytium . It is very difficult to differentiate follicular adenoma and follicular carcinoma using the morphological cellular arrangement approach. False negative and false positive cases are present and the diagnostic accuracy is low.This cu rrent approach of FNAC is based on morphological cellular arrangement of the aspirate.
