Abstract

Pregnancy is a period of change and adjustment. One of the changes in the circulatory system is the increased demand for red blood cell count about two or three times more than usual. An imbalance between the accretion needs of blood cells and blood volume increase had caused physiological hemodilution with anemia. Pregnancy which has accompanied by physiological anemia can be treated with health behavior during pregnancy. The aimed of this study was to determine the correlation between antenatal care behavior of pregnant women with anemia occurance during pregnancy in Puskesmas Mangli Jember. The design used was cross sectional with simple random sampling technique. There were 33 respondents include in this research. The independent variables are knowledge, attitude and action. The dependent variable were anemia. Knowledge and attitudes were measured by questionnaires and action measured by observation sheet. Anemia was measured by comparing talquist with haemoglobin scale. The data was analyzed by Spearman's Rho correlation. The results showed that there were a correlation between knowledge (p= 0,004, r=-0,486), attitudes (p=0,009 r=-0,449) and actions (13=0,000 r=-0,911) towards the occurrence of anemia in Puskesmas Mangli. The correlation coefficient (r) on the knowledge and attitudes with anemia showed quite strong, while correlation between action and anemia occurance was very strong. This results recommends to health workers to improve their professionalism which are attitude, performance and communication in giving health service, so that the patient would feels respected and good service. Those would improve the patient's motivation to check up their pregnancy and obey the health worker's advice. Further research in the same case of this study using different methods of health education for anemia prevention was needed.
