Abstract

Aging process is a natural process that is followcd with the reduction of cognitive, physical, intelectual, emosional as well social functions. This matter cause a lot of problem emerge in elderly which one of them is that is condition change existence bounce elderly which can be assessed with measuring cognate function damage that happened. Elderly is often experience of the degradation of reality energy therefore require to be given a correct therapy that is therapy of group activity oricnt the realita. This study was aimed to find the influence of the therapy of group activity orient the realita to cognitive functions level in elderly at Tresna Sosial Services Folk Home Elderly Pare-Kediri. Design used in this study quasi experimental pre-post two group design. Thc population was all elderly with certain level of dependence due to cognitive level treated at Tresna Folk Home Elderly Pare-Kediri, obscrved to Jamiary 2010. Sample size was 20 respondents, taken according to inclusion criteria and they were divided into 2 group, 10 respondents in treatment and 10 respondents control groups recruited using purposive sampling. The independent variables in this study were therapy of group activity orient the realita, while the dependent variabel was the change cognitive level functions. Data were collected using Mini Mental State Examination through questionnaire and analyzed using by means of Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney Test with significance level of p<0,05. Results revealed pre-test and post-test in treatment group with significance levcl of p= 0,007, whilc that in control group was p = 0.180. It was found that therapy of group activity orient the realita is effective in affecting reduction of the cognitive level functions in elderly. Results post-and post-test in treatment and control groups with significance p= 0.031. It was there are the influence therapy of group activity orient the realita to cognitive functions level in elderly. It can bc concluded from this study that there was influence of the therapy of group activity orient the realita to cognitive functions level of elderly who lived in folk home elderly. Further involve more respondents and use therapy of group activity orient the realita regularly for improving cognitive function at elderly. There by all elderly better in maintaining active cognitivc function always in exploiting time of spare for doing activity.
