Abstract

Diarrhea is a major causes of death and illness in children, in developing countries, included Indonesia. The highest prevalence of diarrhea was found in children under five year old and primary school. Unhealthy behavior is one of primary causes of child′s diarrhea. Nurse can help to prevent diarrhea by using health education. This research conducted to examine the effect of health education using speech method and demonstration method in order to change knowledge and attitudes of diarheea prevention. This reseach used Pre-Eksperimental design. Population had taken from primary school students at 4 grade of SDN Sidoharjo 2 of Kecamatan Gedeg Kabupaten Mojokerto. Sample comprised 38 respondents who met the inclution criteria. They were selected by purposive sampling. The independent variables in this research was health education using speech method and demonstration method about health behaviors to live clean and healthy. The dependent variables in this research were knowledge and attitudes on diarrhea prevention. Data were collected using questionare knowledge and attitude in diarheea prevention. They were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, with level of significance p ≤ 0,05. Result showed that health education about health behaviors of living clean and healthy influencing the knowledge students with significant level of p = 0,001, and attitudes students with significant level of p = 0,000. It can be concluded that there are significant effect of health education using speech method and demonstration method about health behaviors to live clean and healthy on elementary students knowledge and attitudeon d diarrhea preventionin the elementary students. It can be suggested that this intervention can prevent diarrhea. Health education must be done at school regularly with good collaboration with Puskesmas.
