Abstract

Children 5 years old especially 1-3 years old have a big risk in nutrition problem and disease, in addition, rapid physical and brain growth also occurs at this age. There are many malnourished children under five years old in Banaran village, their body weight are less than 12000 gram and their arm circumference are less than 13 cm. This is due to lack of nutrients in their daily needs. Posyandu has been trying to reduce this lack of nutrients with supplementary food but there's no effect. Ganyong is a plant that is easily found and cheap that has high amount of carbohydrate and iron. Later on, ganyong are processed into cookies that favored by children. This study aims to explain before and after the effect of giving ganyong cookies to increase the toddler's nutritional status, by measuring weight and upper arm circumference on the malnourished children at Banaran village, Lamongan district. This study using quasy experimenta1 methods. Population is malnourished toddlers. Total sample are 20 children divided into 2 groups: treatment group and comparison group. Independent variable is giving ganyong cookies as suplementary food. Dependent variable is body weight and upper arm circumference, these was measured over 4 weeks. Data were analyzed by paired t-test and independent t-test with a significance level < 0.05. Results indicate that the cookies have effect to increase body weight and upper arm circumference's toddlers (p = 0.009 and p = 0.028) and there is no between treatment and comparison groups (p = 0.427 and p = 0.675), so it can be concluded that ganyong cookies can't increase body weight and upper arm circumference's toddler.
