Abstract
The surgery either elective or emergency is a stressful event complex, a stressor that can cause physical and psychological anxiety. In patients with presurgery to help reduce the anxiety can be therapeutic classical music. Music is a harmonic vibration of air, the nerves in the ear koklearis him then forwarded to the nerves and the brain will affect the pituitary and activates the limbic system associated with emotional behavior. This study aimed to investigate the effect of music therapy on anxiety levels pre-surgery patient in the operating room Adi Husada Undaan Wetan Hospital in Surabaya. Design Quasy-experimental research uses, the design of the study “nonequivalent control group design”. It use purposive sampling with number the responden 18 people were divided into an intervention group and a control group. Analysis of the test data using test intervention group showed Wilcoxson Signed Rating α ≤ value ≤ 0.038 or 0.05, can effect on the level of anxiety in patients with music therapy. The results of Mann Whitney test showed a significant between the experimental group / intervention and control groups by p = 0.005, so there is an influence of music therapy to reduce patient anxiety pre-surgery. Recommendations of the study was to reduce patient anxiety pre-surgery levels using Zung Self-Rating scale Anxiety Scale (SAS / SRAs), classical music can be therapeutic. Further research with can be develop biomolecular technique measurement for body respone to determine the effect of music therapy on anxiety levels pre-surgery patients.
