Abstract

"Hallucination is one of symptom in schizophrenia, it impacts as violence to themselves and the others, attempted suicide, social interaction disorder, as well as verbal and non verbal communication disorder, if hallucination isn't immediately handled. The objective of this study was explained the effect of modified perception stimulation on auditory hallucination management in schizophrenia. This study used a quasy experimental design and samples were 18 persons, taken from the client of Menur Mental Hospital Surabaya who were treated at male class III wards. The symptom was using purposive sampling. Respondent were divided into two groups, 9 persons experiment group and 9 person as control group. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test with SPSS 11.5 and Mann Whitney test with significance level ofp < 0,05. The result of this study using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test was p = 0,007 for treatment group and p = 0,564 for control group while using the Mann Whitney test in both groups were p = 0,000, indicating that modified perception stimulation had effected on hallucination management in schizophrenia. It can be concluded that modified perception stimulation of GAT can manage hallucination for patient auditory hallucination. Further studies should be recommended on the effect of modified perception stimulation group activity therapy (GAT) on others hallucination."
