Abstract

Surgery is a discomfort experience that make a tension for patient, mostly pasien respons the surgery with anxiety and fear. Pre-operatif teaching is needed to change patient's attitude and adaptable before the procedure, as the result patient become cooperative and can decrease his anxiety. This study was aimed to identify the effect of pre-operatif teaching toward patient's anxiety before having surgery. Design was used in this study is quasy experiment. The population was pre-operatif patient. Respondent was taken by purposive sampling according to inclusion criteria. The independent variable was pre-operatif teaching. The independent variable was anxiety. Data was collected using structured questionare, then it was analyzed using statistic test ( Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test) with level of significance a.< 0,05. Results showed pre-operatif teaching has good effect toward anxiety level (p-,008). It can be concluded that pre-operatif teaching has good effect to decrease anxiety level. It is correlated with increase knowledge as good as attitude. Further studies should involve larger respondents and better measurement tool to obtain more accurate results.
