Abstract
Mental retardation is a condition in which intellectuals’ability is below normal with a manifestasion before 18 years old. Mentally retarded child usually impaired psychomotor self reliance. Chaining technique is one of the behavior therapy that can improve the independence of psychomotor eat with a spoon. The purpose of this study was to find out is there any influence of chaining techniques to increase self-sufficiency to eat with a spoon on mentally retarded. Design used in this study was quasy eksperiment. The population was all mentally retarded children who experiences barrier to independence eat with spoon. Techniques sampel was used purposive sampling, and the amount of samples is 16 respondents, taken accorded to inclusion criteria. The independent variable was chaining technique. The dependent variable was the children eat mental retardation independence. The data collected were the resources respondents using observation. Analysis of data was the resource person then technique was used Wilcoxon test and Mann-Withney test The result of Wilcoxon test, to the independence of ate showed the level of treatment group score p= 0,011<0,05, and the level of control group showed the score p=0,157>0,05. The Mann-Withney test used the which is the defferent of the control and treatment group result the score p=0,001<0,05 The conclusion of this research was there is an influence of chaining technique of self reliance toward to increase of eating with mentally retarded in Ponsos Tuna Grahita Kalijudan Surabaya.
