Abstract

Introduction. Acute surgery pain has been a major problem experienced by postsurgery patients. This pain might need pharmacology and non-pharmacology treatment to relieve. Pain level’s possibly predisposed by psychology factor before surgery. Pre surgery counseling then initiated to control cognitive and to encourage client’s pain perception. The aim of this study was to know about the effect of pre-surgery counseling to the pain tolerance and stabilization of the vital sign post-surgery. Methods. Kind of methods of this research is Quasy Experimental with pre post test control group design. The populate of this study is pre-operative apendictomy patients. Large samples was determined by Nonprobability sampling with Consecutive Sampling techniques. Independent variable of this study is pre-surgery counseling. Dependent variable of this study are pain tolerance and vital signs. To grouping data are done by observation and has been analyzed by Pair-t Test and Independent-t Test with the significance level is p≤0,05. Result. The result of this research is significance reduction of pain intensity to the treatment group (p=0,005). The vital signs are : sistolic blood pressure (p=0.044) diastolic (p=0.42), heart rate (p=0.019) and respiration (p=0.013). Discussion and conclusion. There’s an effect between pre-surgery counseling to pain tolerance and vital sign stabilization post-surgery. It is a recommended to the nurse to give an attention to the pshycological aspects of the patients before surgery because pre-surgery counseling can be used as preempative cognitive analgesia.
