Abstract

It was found that a problem in common carp culture was either infectious or non infectious disease. It was said that the disease was a factor which limited the continuity of common carp farming- Eradication is a mcthodc for controlling the infectious disease by disinfectant or antibiotic, it was evidence that various disinfectant was effective in preventing the infectious disease, besides it was also intended for the treatment of the external infectious disease found on skin, fin and in gill. The kinds of disinfectants used to prevent and to treat the infectious bacteria on fish fry were Bcnzalkonium Chloride (BKC) and Potassium Permanganate (PK) but their effectiveness in decreasing the total bacteria has not been proven. 140 common carp fry about 3 to 5 centimeters in length were used in the experiment. They were dcvidcd into 3 treatment groups with 5 replications. Each group consisted of 45 common carp fry, BKC was used in the first experiment, PK in the second and no disinfectant in the third. There were twice disinfeetions. The data observed was the total bacteria on the skin and gill tbund on the 0, 5th, 1011`, l'11 day after the second disinfections. ANOVA was used to analize the total difference of the bacteria found on the 0, 51, 10th and 15`h day furthermore. Besides, the I test was given to the total bacteria on the skin and gill to find out the total difference of bacteria on both organs. The purpose of this experiment was to find out the effectiveness of BKC and PK in decreasing the total bacteria in the common carp fry. The result was that the dipping of the common carp with BKC or PK could decrease the total bacteria on skin and gill. The dipping with BKC 2 ppm for 30 minutes was effective, enough to decrease the total bacteria in 15 days and with PK 3 ppm for 30 minutes was only effective to decrease the total bacteria in 10 days.
