Abstract
Attention deficit, one of three main problems of child with ADHD makes the child difficult to pay attention and concentrate to one or more thing or object so they cannot do the task well. Play therapy is included in the behaviour therapy and crossword puzzle is one of games that may increase attention and concentration. By doing crossword puzzle, it will increase the blood flow to the brain and stimulate the prefrontal cortex to maintain eyes activities and decrease ears activities.
This study used pre-experimental design. The population was the ADHD students of Cakra Autisme Terapi. Total sample was 7 respondents, enrolled by means of purposive sampling and taken according to inclusion criteria. The independent variabel was crossword puzzle and the dependent variabel was the increase of attention. Data were collected using observation sheet and analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with level of significance of 0.05.
Result showed that crossword puzzle could increased attention, from less to good attention, particularly in playing activities, with the result of statistical test showing significance level p=0.014, it indicating there was differences of attention between pre and post-test.
It can be concluded that crossword puzzle can increase attention. It is recommended for teachers and parents of ADHD children to give them crossword puzzle game everyday at school or home. Further studies should involve larger size of respondents and use another game to not only increase attention, but also reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity of ADHD child.
