Abstract

"greatest number of semester credit unit in third semester, more than 60 % students got C. The most popular teaching method used in this course is lecture method. There are some who used discussion methode, but this method application is not proper with the truth rule. Lecture method is a teaching method in which the lecture gives opportunity to the student to hold scientific discussion. This research has objective to compare students understanding in Medical Surgical Nursing I lecture and discussing methode of Darul Ulum Jombang Nursing Academy Student. The design of this research is Quasy Experiment and the population is the third semester student of Darul Ulum Jombang Nursing Academy. As the technique sampling is Simple Random Sampling, approximately 66 students is taken as sample then divided into two groups. Lecture method and discussion method are the independent variable, students understanding in Medical Surgical Nursing I course as dependent variable. The data collected then was analyzed by using Wilcoxon statistic test and Mann Whitney U Test with significant degress value p :S 0.05. The result of statistic test shows p = 0.000 for burning nursing care, p = 0.595 for fracture nursing careand p = 0.206 for typhoid fever nursing care. This means that there is a distinction between students understanding in bum nursing care that is taught by using lecture and discussion method. And there is no distinction between students understanding in fracture nursing care and typhoid fever nursing care by giving lecture method and discussion method. Based on the description above, in researcher consideration, it is necessary for a lecture, in giving instruction, decides the proper instructional method in teaching learning process so student may get good understanding."
