Abstract

Many elderly face significant life changes and stressors that lead them into depression. Several sources explain that Affirmation Relaxation can decrease depression. This research was aimed to analyze the influence of Affirmation Relaxation in decreasing depression in the elderly. Pre experimental pretest-posttest only design was used in this research. Total sample was 12 elderly people. The independent variable was Affirmation Relaxation and the dependent variable was depression. Data was analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with the significance α ≤ 0,05. The result showed that there were significant differences on depression level after Affirmation Relaxation (p = 0,003). It can be concluded that Affirmation Relaxation can decrease depression in the elderly. Affirmation Relaxation help the depressed elderly to grow self acceptance, adaptive coping, self integrity, spirit of live and decrease anxiety. It can suggested to the Waluyo Husodo Folk Home of Elderly in Tulungagung to practice Affirmation Relaxation to help depressed elderly
