Abstract

Menarche is defined as first menstruation, the discharge of blood from a woman's genitals entirely within the uterine lining that contains blood vessels. Unpreparation of being menarche is due to the lack of information. The objective of this research was to increase preparation of being menarche of elementary school student grade 4th to 5th SD Muhammadiyah 15 Sumberasri. This research used pra-experimental pre post design. The sampling method used purposive sampling with 13 respondents. The independent variable was Focus Group Discussion and the dependent variable was preparation of being menarche that can be assessed from knowledge aspect about menstruation and attitude aspect of being menarche. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed ranks test with significance level p<0,05. This research results showed that the Focus Group Discussion can increase the student preparation of being menarche, which can be assessed from the knowledge aspect and attitudes aspect. In this study knowledge had significance level (p = 0.002) and attitude had significance level (p = 0.003). It can be concluded that the Focus Group Discussion is effective as a method to provide information about menstruation to increase preparation of being menarche of elementary school students grade 4th to 5th. Further research should recommended that Focus Group Discussion of menstruation used as a method of learning to increase preparation of being menarche.
