Abstract

Pulmonary TB is one infectious disease caused by bacteria known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The number of cases of pulmonary TB can be caused by several factors, one of which is the behavior of the family (Tobing, 2008). Family health tasks are providing care to patients with pulmonary TB. The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between family health task and behavior of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis. Design used in this study was cross-sectional. The population in this study was pulmonary TB patients and their families who visited Out-Patient-Pulmonary Unit I, Pulmonary Hospital Surabaya. Sample comprised 40 respondents recruited based on inclusion criteria. The independent variable was family health tasks. The dependent variable was the behavior of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis transmissions. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and observation of respondents. Data were analyzed using Spearman rho test with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. The results showed that the family health tasks had correlation with the knowledge of pulmonary TB patients, patients’ attitude, and patients’ actions in preventing the transmission of pulmonary TB with level of significance p = 0.000, p = 0.049, and p = 0.088 respectively. This study concludes that there was a significant relationship between family health task with patient’s knowledge and attitudes in the prevention of Tubercolusis transmission and there was no significant relationship between family health tasks with TP pation’s action in the prevention of Tubercolusis transmission. It is recommended that during implementation of nursing care nurses can enhance family’s capacity to fulfill the family health tasks; thus pulmonary TB patients’ have the ability to perform pulmonary tuberculosis preventive measures.
