Abstract

The prevalence rate of stroke in Indonesia based on diagnosis in the population aged ≥ 15 years in 2007-2018 showed an increase, and 51% of deaths due to stroke are caused by hypertension. Therefore, stroke prevention efforts are needed in hypertension patients. This study was purposed to determine the relationship between age, sex, blood pressure classifications, length of suffering from hypertension, adherence to taking antihypertensive drugs, diabetes, heart disease and the incidence of stroke in hypertension patients. This is an analytic observational study with cross sectional design, and using IFLS 5 data. Sampling was done by cleaning data on the population study and all variables, then combining data until a sample of 2,408 people was obtained. There is a significant relationship between age (p=0.000; OR=2.28; 95%CI=1,490-3,495); gender (p=0.002; OR=1.73; 95%CI=1,225-2,451); blood pressure classifications (p=0.043; OR=1.44; 95%CI=1.012-2.065);adherence to taking anti-hypertensive drugs (p=0.000; OR=0.41; 95%CI=0.286-0.586); diabetes (p=0.030; OR=1.66; 95%CI=1.050-2.639); heart disease (p=0.035; OR=1.72; 95%CI=1.039-2.878) with incidence of stroke in hypertension patients. There is no relationship between length of suffering from hypertension and incidence of stroke in hypertension patients (p=0.072; OR=1.01; 95%CI=0.998-1.039). The conclusion is a relationship between age, gender, blood pressure classifications, adherence to taking anti-hypertensive drugs, diabetes, heart disease with incidence of stroke in hypertension patients, but there is no relationship on variable length of suffering from hypertension. The suggestion that can be given is that it is necessary to have a healthy lifestyle for hypertension patient to avoid stroke, especially in men, having diabetes and heart disease.
