Abstract
One of Thornton Wider's qualities as his significance in The Bridge of San Luis Rey is his capability to bring up such impo~t paradox about the discrepancy between faith and fact. Brother Juniper, the main character, is a friar who believes that everything in the world has been wisely proportioned. His belief becomes a conflict in his mind while it is confronted to the facts that too much good and virtuous people get suffered in their lifes. All in the world seems a big mistake. If God is All-good, why the pains are inserted towards the life of the innocent people?
