Abstract

This study attempts to discuss the portrayal of women under patriarchy system is four poems by Linda Pastan, an American poet born in 1932; "I Married You", "Marks", "Meditation by the Stove", and ''What We Want" all these selected poems had been written in 1968-1998. To analyze these poems, the writer focuses on the Literary Feminism on traditional gender role. This theory will be used to analyze how the women in Linda Pastan's poems reveal the motion that is the feeling and the action of women's position toward patriarchy system in the poems. This research is aimed to reveal how women as housewives in the poems affirm or support patriarchy. Women as the housewives are ready to be used by men in sexual life. Women in the family must try so hard to make their couple satisfied because this is a part of their obligation as wives. Marriage has made women unable to reach her dreams. In becoming wives and mothers, women have sacrificed some of their dreams. Those Linda Pastan's poems show that women affirm the patriarchy system.
