Abstract

It is very interesting to observe the use of two different regional languages in one place. The Lhesis is dealing wilh language shiji 1ha1 is lhe result from language choice. The language shift from Madurese to .Javanese here happens among some junior high school students in Bondowoso, especially when they are talking to their friendv. There are some cultural and language interaction between two different ethnics, especially among their young genera/ion. The interaction causes language shift which may influence language use including the distribution of speakers or migration o.f people in Bondowoso district (kola), the school policy in children language leaching, intermarriage or mixed-marriage pallerns, higher prestige 011 using language, and of course, the declining of using the Madurese language among the young generation.
