Abstract

Thomas Gray as the forerunner of the Romantic movement has expressed his feeling and thought impressively through one of his poems, Elegy Wrillen in a Country-Yard. The "Etegy" literally talks about death in a universal appeamnce and the detllhs of the humble particularly. The universal course of death is applied through the theme implied. while the lifo and death of the humble is depicted vigorously in quite vivid images covered with such melancholy tone. To bring his heart and mind in the poem Gray uses first point of view as a way to put himself as the central figure in it. His devoted life has influenced the quality of his own character in his works of art. The experiences, which he lived through some phases of life, indirectly shape the essence of his works, for he is concerned about nature and the life of the humble and the expressiveness of his works. They bring his maturity and awareness in the nature of poetry.
