Abstract
This study is about the flouting of maxims in Pojok Mang Usil in Kompas Newspaper. The general purpose of this study is to provide a real description about the usage of implicature in Pojok Mang Usil. Then, the particular aim of the study is to find. the flouting of maxim in Kompas, particularly in Pojok Mang Usil. For that reason, it is necessary to investigate the message in the column. In order to help the student of English Department who interest in pragmatics, therefore this will be useful reference for them. Qualitative research is used as an approach by focusing on discourse comer. Grice theory is applied in order to identify the flouting maxims used by Pojok Mang Usil. Four flouting maxims of cooperative principle were found: they are maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of manner and maxim of relevance. The result show that the flouting maxim of relevance and maxim of manner mostly occur than other two maxims. It conveys social criticism and it is applied. in the comment in order to emphasize the intended meaning or implicature.
