Abstract
Childhood Disease Management Integreated (CDMI) is an integrated approach in the management of ill underfives. Students' knowledge in the implementation of CDMI, if it is learned from lecture method only, will result in less satisfactory learning experience. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of lecture method with audio visual on students' knowledge in assessing sign and symptoms, determining the level of severity and classification, determining procedure and medication, counseling provision, as well as the provision of treatment and follow up in CDML This study used quasi-experimental design. The independent variable was lecture method with audio visual, while the dependent variable was knowledge on CDMI implementation among Nursing Academy students. Samples were recruited using non-probability purposive sampling. Results showed that lecture method with audio visual was more effective in determining sign and symptoms (p = 0.005) and counseling provision (p = 0.006), while other implementations showed similar effectiveness, i.e., determination of severity and classification (0.915), determination of procedure and medication (0.156), and treatment and follow up (0.062). The knowledge of Nursing Academy students on CDMI implementation has similarly increased after either being given with lecture method with audiovisual or with lecture method only. Regarding the assessment of sign and symptoms and counseling provision, it is more effective to use audio visual, while in the determination of severity, classification, procedure, medication, as well as treatment and follow up, it will be more effective to provide lecture method only without audio visual media.
