Abstract

Prevalence of elderly depression still get the first level. It may be affected by several factors, such as personality types and social support. Introvert personality and the lack of social support in elderly cause depression. The objective of this study was to reveal correlations personality types and social support with level of depression in Hargo Dedali folk home elderly, Surabaya. This study used cross sectional design. Population was elderly living in Hargo Dedali folk home elderly, Surabaya. Samples of 30 respondents met the inclusion criteria were taken by applying a purposive sampling method. Data were collected using MMPI, Miller, and BDI questionnaire. Data were analyzed by Chi Square to correlation personality types with level of depression, and correlation social support with level of depression by Spearman's Rho test with significance level ofO,05. Results showed correlation personality types with the level of depression (p = 0,008). A strong correlation was also found social support with level of elderly depression (p = 0,000; r = -0,812) It can be concluded from this study that there was correlations personality types and social support with level of depression in elderly who lived in folk home elderly. If the number of elderly have introvert personality increase and the lack of social support, it is followed by elderly have depression. Further studies should develop with the others factor that influent the level of depression in elderly and the risk that cause it.
