Abstract

Background: There is a disorder associated with menstruation like dysmenorrhea. The dysmenorrhea incident in East Java reached 64.25% consisting of 54.89% primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea. Based on previous study, the primary dysmenorrhea less occurs in women who conduct exercise than women who do not. The purpose of this study is to explain the relationship between the physical activity towards primary dysmenorrhea in teenage girls who follow the extracurricular. Method: This study used cross-sectional research approach. The population was obtained from students of class X and XI in SMAN 1 Rengel. There were a total of 331 people and for the sample only took 77 respondents. This study used purposive sampling technique. Data collection using a Physical Activity questionnaire Quetionnaire for Adolescent (PAQ-A) to measure physical activity and measurement of pain scale questionnaire using the method of the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The data were collected by using questionnaire and it analyzed by using Spearman test with significance level u :s: 0,05. Results: The results of this study showed the relationship between the physical activity (p = 0.033) towards dysmenorrhea in teenage girls is suitable with the theoretical reviews and some previous studies. The physical activity is useful in reducing the primary dysmenorrhea. For further research is suggested to conduct research on other factors related to primary dysmenorrhea. Thus, it will enrich knowledge and solutions for teenage girl who experience dysmenorrhea.
