Abstract

The aims of this study was to identify various types of protozoan parasites that can be found in gastrointestinal tract of Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) in Surabaya Zoo. Using descriptive design, sixty faecal specimens were purposively sampled from random Proboscis monkeys in Bekantan island of Surabaya Zoo. Faecal samples were collected from different locations within the three part of living trees. Identification of patogen protozoan parasites showed 58.3%, 66.7%, 8.3% positive results respectively for native, simple sedimentation and floating fulleborn methods. Based on size and nuklei specification, cysts and tropozoit isolated using the three methods were identified as the cysts and tropozoit of Balantidium sp, Entamoeba sp and Giardia sp.
