Abstract

This study aims to prove the influence of extract of bay leaf (Eugenia polyantha) in decreasing blood glucose levels of white rats (Rattus norvgigews) who suffer hyperglycemia. This research using experimental animals, healthy white rats, with treatment; P 1 as a negative control, P2 as a positive control, which in this treatment was given standard drug antihipergilkemia (glibenclamid), and the treatment that given extracts of bay leaf (Eugenia polyantha), which are given in four doses of treatment; P3 0 mg / kg bw, P4 114.5 mg / kg bw, P5 252 mg / kg bw, and P6 314.87 mg / kg bw. The results of this study, showed lhat administration of bay leaf extract (Eugenia polyantha) can lower blood glucose levels of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) who suffer hyperglycemia. Bay leaf extract (Eugenia polyantha) P5 treatment at doses 252 mg / kg bw and P6 314.87 mg/kg bw, giving a decrease of blood glucose levels are similar when compared with standard drug treatment antihiperglikemia (glibenclamid) on P2 treatment.
