Abstract

Background: Glucose is a sugar that is carried by the bloodstream to all cells in the body to supply energy. People need to maintain glucose levels in the normal range to reduce the risk of diabetes. The mental workload cannot be measured and observed by a person so it is important to note so that it does not arise towards prolonged stress and physiological disorders. The stress response will be very fast in raising glucose Method: This study uses a cross sectional approach. Respondents were selected 14 Faculties of Universitas Airlangga. The total respondents were 109 lecturers who served as structural officials who participated in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire of mental workload, stress level, and respondents examined random glucose, then the data were analyzed using the Rank Spearman test with a significance level of <0,05. Result: The results of this study show that there is a relationship between mental workload and glucose value (p = 0.003) and there is a relationship between stress levels and blood sugar values (p = 0.003), the p-value was very small so the relationship was very significant. Discussion: There is a relationship between mental workload and stress level with blood sugar values on structural officials of Universitas Airlangga. Mental workload and stress that occur over a long period of time can increase the risk of Diabetes mellitus. The future researchers are expected to be able to analysis other factors that can increase blood sugar values and the differences in mental workload, stress levels, and blood sugar values of structural and non-structural officials.
