Abstract
Health behavior has an important role in supporting treatment procedure to acute thrombotic stroke patients with swallowing disorder. Swallowing disorder has higher of complication risk to pneumonic aspiration, dehydration and malnutrition. Therefore it needs feeding management. Behavior improvement can be achieved through health education. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of health education about feeding management on behavior improvement in patients with acute thrombotic stroke with swallowing disorder at Neurologic room and Stroke unit, Dr Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. This study used pre-experimental (One group pre and post-test) design. Population was all patients where stay at Neurologic room and Stroke unit and were involved according inclusion criteria. Samples were taken using purposive sampling, with total sample 10 respondents. Dependent variable of the study was acute thrombotic stroke patients with swallowing disorder which include knowledge, affective and psichomotor. Independent variable was health education. Instruments used were questionnaire and observation to patients. Then, data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test, with significance value a<0,05. Result revealed that there different between the knowledge, affective and psichomotor before and after health education intervention which showed with level of knowlwdge was p=0.005, the affective level was p=0.003, and the psychomotor level was p=0.008. This indicated that there influence of of health education about feeding management on behavior improvement and the most influence was affective behaviour because the emosional, culture, and believing was dominant factor which
make closed behavior. Conclusively, it is apparent that health education has influence on the behavior improvement of acute thrombotic stroke patients with swallowing disorder. So it suggested that patients, family, and health care providers play their role in feeding management. Improvement in standard procedure will support health education program to further improve behavior in patients with swallowing disorder
