Abstract

Blindness due to diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of blindness in USA and Europe, especially for those who are at the age of 40 - 65 years old. In Indonesia the management of diabetic retinopathy is still a big problem, because we have few laser machines and small number of retinal specialists. The objective of this research is to study the influence of the peripheral retinal cicatrix due to cryoretinopexy to maintain the central autoregulation retina system in the non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus with non proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Twenty five patients of non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy on both eyes, one eye was performed the peripheral retinal cicatrix by cryoretinopexy as an experiment and the other eye was photocoagulated by laser. The research method was a pre - test post - test control group experimental design and the statistical analysis was the Independent samples T- test and the multiple regression with level of significant (l = 0,05 to proof the experiment of the peripheral retinal cicatrix due to cryoretinopexy to maintain the central autoregulation retina system. The result of the study showed no Significant difference between the pre cryoretinopexy group and the post cryoretinopexy group. Peripheral retinal cicatrix due to cryoretinopexy was one of the varia bel to influence the central autoregulation retina system. The conclusion of this study is the peripheral retinal cicatrix which is caused by cryoretinopexy can maintain the central autoregulation retina system.
