Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the differences between level of the testosterone from spermatozoa, seminal plasma and blood serum and its relation to quality of semen and semen significant to determine the best semen bull in the period. Data collection was taken out in December 2013 to January 2014 in The Unit Frozen Semen Laboratory at Airlangga University Teaching Farm, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Klinika Laboratory in Surabaya. The population was two Simmental Bulls between 2-5 years old. The variables observed in this study were testosterone level by ELISA and semen quality includes the volume of the ejaculate, color, odor, consistency, mass movement, individuals movement, pH, sperm concentration, percentage of dead and abnormal spermatozoa. The data wAS analyzed by Analytic Hierarchy Process using Expert Choice 2000 to determine the best bull semen in the period. The results showed that spermatozoa testosterone level of bull 2 (3640 ng/dl) was higher than spermatozoa testosterone level of bull I (1952 ng/dl). While testosterone level in serum and seminal almost the same between the two bulls. There were significant differences between ejaculated semen volume and sperm concentration between bull 1 and bull 2, consecutively 4 ml and 694 x 106 spermatozoa/ml, 9 ml and 1600 x 106 spermatozoa/ml. As for the other quality was almost the same. The differences of ejaculated semen volume and sperm concentration between bull 1 and bull 2 when compared with testosterone levels derived from spermatozoa have a relationship that could be seen from the increasing of testosterone in spermatozoa was directly proportional to the increasing volume of ejaculate semen and sperm concentration. Based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process in determining the best bull semen during the period, concluded that the semen quality of bull 2 (52.1 %) was better than bull 1 (47 9 %).
