Abstract
Introduction: The inappropriate type of parenting and the interaction between parents and children affected the behavior of Elementary School Students, including child's gadget intensity use. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting and parent interaction with the intensity of the use of gadgets in Elementary School Students. Method: This study used crosssectional approach with 103 parents of students in SDN Sidodadi 2 elementary school taken by purposive sampling. The data about parenting style and parentschild interaction as independent variable, and the intensity of gadget use as dependent variable was collected by questionnaires. The questionnaire is The Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ), this questionnaire has 3 subscales, each of which measures authoritative parenting (15 items), authoritarian (12 items) and permissive (5 items). The next questionnaire is the Parental Child Interaction Questionnaire - Revised (PACHIQ-R), the parameters in this questionnaire are conflict resolution and acceptance. The last questionnaire is a questionnaire on the intensity of the gadget use. The correlation between independent and dependent variable were analyzed by chi-square test for nominal scale and Spearman's test for ordinal scale with the level of significance a<0,05. Results: There was a significant relationship between parenting and the intensity of gadget use (p = 0,000), parent interaction and the intensity of using gadgets (p = 0.000). Discussion: type of parenting and interaction between parents and child are having relationship with intensity of gadget use. Permissive parenting has relationship with high intensity of gadget use. Low parents interaction has relationship with high intensity of gadget use. Parents are required to apply good parenting ( authoritative) in accompanying children because if the role of parents is not fulfilled then there will be behavioral disorders and gadget abuse.
