Abstract

A burn is the a type of injury to flesh caused by heat, electricity, chemical, light, radiation or friction. Second-degree burns are defined as those burns inwhich the entire epidermis and variable portions of the dermis layer are heatdestroyed. Burns can be treated either chemically or naturally. Purslane is one ofthe herb that is useful for healing wound because it has a lot of advantages like antirnycrobacterium, increasing fibroblast cell proliferation and collagensynthesis. This experiment for explain the effect of giving crude extract ofpurslane to accelerate the second grade of burn wound healing process in guineapigs. This research using a true-experimental design by 20 sampels, 3 monthsold-male guinea pigs, divided into two groups, I treatment group anda I controlgroup. This classification was done randomizely. Independent variable were crudeextract of purslane while dependent variable were inflammatory phase (erythema, oedema, wound fluid) and proliferation phase (wound granulation and woundside) were assessed in the 3'd, 5th,and 7th days. Data obtained from the observationof the signs both of inflammatory and proliferation phase. Mann-Whitneystatistical test used to analyze erythema and oedema inflammatory phase. Whilewound fluid, wound granulation, and wound side using non-parametric statisticaltest namely Kruskal-Wallis.Result showed that there were differences betwen crude extract of purslaneand control group in erythema (p=O.028), wound granulation (p=O.057) andwound side (p=1.000) at 3'd day, erythema (p=0.028), wound granulation(p=0.028) and wound side (p=1.000) at 5th day, and erythema (p=1.000), woundgranulation (p=O.027) and wound side (p=O.029) at 7th day.In conclusion, crude extract of purslane was proven to be more effectivesin accelarated burn wound grade 2nd healing, increasing fibroblast cellproliferation and reduce any infection risks. For further research, microscopicobservation of collagen, PMN-cell (neutrophile), MN-cell (Lymphocyte andmonocyte) is needed.
