Abstract

This final report was written to explore the use of flashcard as a learning media for teaching vocabulary to young learners. Learning vocabulary is an essential aspect of learning foreign language, especially for young learners. In terms of teaching young learners, it should also be engaging and innovative to foster their engagement in the classroom. Therefore, this final report intended to discover how was the verbs selection process and students’ engagement during teaching and learning process. The writer used observation, documents, and flashcard of verbs as data collection techniques. Observations were conducted to find out the appropriate verbs for kindergarten students and the pattern of students’ engagement in learning with flashcard as a media. By utilizing Total Physical Response (TPR) method, kindergarten students can learn up to eight verbs a day that can increase students’ engagement in the classroom by actively participating, responding to the teacher’s instruction, and showing positive behavior such as excitement and curiosity
