Abstract

This study aims to analyze the vocabulary level and verb usage in the picture book "Car’s Journey to the City." The analysis is conducted based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to determine the appropriate vocabulary level and types of verbs employed. The picture book, intended for young readers, integrates simple language and vivid illustrations to facilitate English language learning. The study employs a combination of observational methods and document analysis to categorize the vocabulary and verbs used. Results indicate that the vocabulary spans CEFR levels A1 to C1, with a predominant usage of A1 level words, constituting 62% of the total vocabulary. Additionally, the analysis identifies three types of verbs: action verbs (63%), helping verbs (13%), and linking verbs (24%). The findings suggest that the book effectively incorporates basic vocabulary and essential verb forms, making it a valuable educational tool for young English learners. This report contributes to the understanding of language complexity in educational picture books and highlights the importance of tailored vocabulary and verb selection to enhance language acquisition.
