Abstract

This thesis investigates the discursive practices contained in the online news of uxoricide cases by Kompas.com throughout 2021 using Van Dijk news analysis supported by the theory of ideal victim by Nils Christie. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. A total of 35 uxoricide news published on the official Kompas.com website was analyzed in this study. The results show that macrostructures and microstructures of the text play an important role in constructing positive representations for the police. Thus, Kompas.com highlights the suspect's behavior and the police's performance in handling uxoricide cases. Kompas.com provides a broad overview of the case and involves several domains such as criminal, law and social domains. Semantic elements and syntactic elements are elements that play an important role in the process of cognition in uxoricide news. Kompas.com utilizes existing social knowledge related to husband-wife social relations to be constructed or reconstructed into the news. Kompas.com reconstructs the reader's understanding that patriarchal understanding can have a bad effect on individuals and can even lead to uxoricide. The results of Van Dijk's analysis are in line with the results on the theory of ideal victim by Nils Christie where the victims and suspects described in the uxoricide discourse have fulfilled five attributes so that they can legally be victims and suspects. Thus, it can be concluded that Kompas.com has fairly reported on victims and suspects in uxoricide news in Indonesia.
