Abstract

Ijime is a fenomenon that usually happen among school’s children in Japan. Ijime has received much attention as an social problem in Japanese society. Ijime is not a simply a form of juvenile delinquency. Killing and suicide have occured because of it. The role of the teachers are necessary to solve the ijime. Ijime has been representating in the manga several times. “Life” manga by Keiko Suenobu is one of the manga which set the story that representing ijime. That story is not only tells about ijime between students but also tells about the involvement and the role of the teachers to solve the ijime that occur. This research purpose is to analyze the teacher’s role in solving the ijime that occur between their students which representated in the “Life” manga. The methods used in this research is textual analysis because the object of this research is manga “Life” by Keiko Suenobu. The theory used in this research are the theory of representation and theory of roles. From the analysis, it can be concluded that in the “Life” manga, the teachers are inconsistence with their role when solving ijime in their school. They choose to keep conceal the ijime and not try to looking for the true perpetrator or help the victim for the sake of the school’s reputation. The school made a teacher, who seriously wants to help the victim and solve the ijime, transfer to another school.
