Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of adding 96% ethanol extract of green tea (Camellia sinensis) in egg yolk diluent on the quality of Bali cattle spermatozoa after the cooling process. The sample was fresh semen collected from Bali cattle. It was divided into four different treatment groups. The control treatment or P0 contained semen sample + 0 mg green tea extract / 100 ml egg yolk diluent + 13% glycerol, P1 contained semen sample + 0,05 mg green tea extract / 100 ml egg yolk diluent + 13% glycerol, P2 contained semen sample + 0,10 mg green tea extract / 100 ml egg yolk diluent + 13% glycerol, P3 contained semen sample + 0,15 mg green tea extract / 100 ml egg yolk diluent + 13% glycerol. Data were processed using One Way Anova and continued with Duncan’s multiple range tests if there were significant differences (p<0,05). Variables observed included spermatozoa motility, spermatozoa viability, and spermatozoa abnormalities. The Best results in this study were at P3 with a concentration of 0.15 mg/100 ml green tea extract in egg yolk diluent with spermatozoa motility (49.00 ± 2.15)%, spermatozoa viability (61.92 ± 1.70)% and spermatozoa abnormalities (4.24 ± 2.16)%.
