Abstract
The liver is the main organ that produces high reactive oxygen species (ROS) and is an organ that is often exposed to the effects of oxidative stress. High levels of ROS can be suppressed by antioxidants in the body, especially those secreted by the liver, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT). This research knowing the morphological structure and antioxidants levels in the liver. The sample size used accidental sampling method. A total of four male bats and three female bats were captured from Wisata De Djawatan, Banyuwangi Regency. The fruit-eating bat identified was Rousettus sp. The morphometric data and antioxidant levels of males and females were analyzed by independent T-test. The average weight of male bats was greater than the weight of female bats, significantly different (p<0.05). The macroscopic picture of the liver consists of cranial lobes, caudal lobes and caudate lobes and the microscopic picture of the bat liver consists of hepatocytes, sinusoids and central veins. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the levels of MDA, SOD, GPx and CAT of male and female bats (p>0.05). The results of the study can be used as a reference or comparison in identifying other types of fruit bats.
