Abstract

Ahaetulla prasina also known as Asian Vine Snake is non venomous snake which frequently used by Indonesian people as exotic pet. Ahaetulla prasina is included in the wild category so it is susceptible to parasitic diseases, especially the digestive tract protozoa infection. Digestive tract protozoan has the potential to infect humans or currently known as zoonotic disease. The purpose of this study is to identify and invesfate the prevalence of digestive tract protozoan in Ahaetulla prasina from Mojokerto District. A total of 34 samples snakes were bought from local seller and have been collected for the euthanasia procedure. The faecal samples obtained were then examined by the native method, sedimentation, floatation, and examined under a microscope. The result founds that 21 samples were positive and 13 samples were negatif from protozoan infection. The present this study conclude that prevalence rate of digestive tract protozoan in Ahaetulla from Mojokerto District were recorded at 61.7%. The types of protozoa found in the digestive tract of Asian Vine Snake (A. prasina) are Entamoeba spp., Cryptosporidium spp., and Giardia spp.
