Abstract
around the world with unknown underlying causes. Form deprivation myopia is a method that conducted as experimental myopia research in animal model. The deprivation in certain period gives the result of myopic eyes and show changes occurred anatomically or molecularly. This method has been conducted in several animal models and help further research about myopia. Objective: To observe the effect of Form Deprivation Myopia (FDM) in axial length and refraction status in Oryctolagus cuniculus (rabbits) Method: Total 16 rabbit number that gained with Miott, 2011 divided on each two groups selected randomly. Before the deprivation in week-0, the rabbits are checked for their initial axial length and status refraction. Deprivation for 4 weeks given at the right eye of the treatment group with the bandage and adhesive tape. After 4 weeks of deprivation, the axial length and status refraction are examined again to see the differences occurred. Results: The result of axial length parameter that gathered after 4 weeks of deprivation shows there are high significancy from the treatment group from week 0 to week 4 (p= 0.002). the control group also shows differences that also significant (p=0.034), however the mean value of the treatment group is larger than the control group (0.6500>0.3812). The result from the refraction status that gathered after 4 weeks of deprivation shows the difference are highly significant in treatment group (p= 0.000), in the control group the significancy result shows no significant difference (p>0.05) Conclusion: There are effects from the result of 4 weeks of deprivation in the Oryctolagus cuniculus eye such as axial length elongation and status refraction changes that indicates myopia condition. Even though the control group also experienced changes in axial length and status refraction, the result changes were still not as significant as the treatment group.
