Abstract

The aim of this research was to observe the effect of Temulawak (Curcuma xantorrhiza Roxb.) extract on the production of oocyst chicken were infected E. tenella. Eighteen of day old chicks were used in this study. At fourteen days old the broilers were divided into three groups. Each group consist of six broilers, the first group were negative control broiler was infected with 5.000 E. tenella without Temulawak (C. xantorrhiza Roxb.) extract (P0), the second group was infected with 5.000 E. tenella and Temulawak (C. xantorrhiza Roxb.) extract 250 mg/kg body weight (P1), and the third group was infected with 5.000 E. tenella and Temulawak (C. xantorrhiza Roxb.) extract 500 mg/kg body weight (P2). Nine days post-infection broilers faeces were taken. The observed variable was the number of oocyst production. The research design was using completely randomized design with three groups and six replications. Data analysis used ANOVA test and continued with Duncan test for oocyst production. The results showed that Temulawak (C. xantorrhiza Roxb.) extract was able to decrease the number of oocyst production. Group P2 which given temulawak extract for 500 mg/kg BB/day is the most effective to maintain the number of oocyst production (1420±584,70), because it was significantly different from the group P0 (6370±1617,52) and group P1 (4630±1714,54). It can be concluded that giving temulawak extract 500 mg/kg BB/day to broiler chicken were infected E. tenella has been shown can maintain the number of oocyst production of E.tenella.
