Abstract
This study examines the discourse of corruption in caricature from the collection of caricature " Dari Presiden ke Presiden edisi Tingkah Polah Elit Politik " by Benny Rachmadi. This research is interesting because corruption in Indonesia has become a habit since ancient times. Corruption already become a tradition in patrimonial bureaucracy, which takes form in the system of feodal society. This pattern and system has been established and maintained as something that society has found it as something common and natural. That’s why the researcher found it interesting to see how the issue of corruption described in each of the president inside the book. This condition was seen through the media that has the function as social control with the product of the media itself that is caricature as a form of social critics.
Through this study, researcher wanted to explore the discourse of corruption in caricature on each president that articulated in the text collection of caricatures ‘Dari Presiden ke Presiden edisi Tingkah Polah Elit Politik”. By using this type of exploratory research and Leeuwen discourse analysis methods also interpreting the significance using graphic satire and caricature caricature characteristics. This research is expected to be able to explore corruption on each president that discoursed as a text in the caricature collection “Dari Presiden ke Presiden edisi Tingkah Polah Elit Politik” .
The conclusion of this research show that in the Habibie’s period as a president, government can’t handle Soeharto’s case properly, even though Soeharto has violated the law. Corruptor’s arrest in the Bali Bank end up finding many difficulties. Power was used as a tool of protection from the law and as a tool to do criminal activities. In the period of Gus Dur, corruption was being discoursed as an evil action but there is no trial or punishment for the corruptor. At Megawati’s period, Indonesia was discoursed as a very corrupted country. At SBY’s period, corruption was discoursed as a critic for Indonesian’s government that unable to handle Suharto’s cases properly. In the end those discourse create the meaning in audience’s head about government’s bad side in handling the corruption.
