Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan media internet penyadang tunarungu komunitas GERKATIN di Kota Surabaya, beserta motif-motif apa saja yang melatarbelaking. Signifikansi penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi wawasan baru bagi penyandang tunarungu yang masih belum mengenal internet agar dapat memanfaatkannya secara postif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif dan tipe penelitian deskriptif karena peneliti bermaksut membuat generalisir data beserta analisisnya. Teori yang digunakan adan Teori Kegunaan dan Kepuasan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survei dengan besar sampe 70 responden yang didapatkan dengan sistem sampel bertujuan. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penyandang tunarungu pada komunitas GERKATIN melakukan pemanfaatan berdasarkan motif dan pola dalam pemanfaatan internet. Berdasarkan dari lima motif yang melandasi dalam memanfaatkan internet antara lain; kognitif, afektif, integrasi pribadi, integrasi sosial dan pelarian. Penyandang tunarungu paling banyak memanfaatkan internet karena dilandasi oleh motif kognitif. Adapun pola pemanfaatan internet tersebut, dimana kebanyakan mengakses internet dirumah dibanding tempat lainnya dengan frekuensi penggunaan 7 kali dalam seminggu dan digolongkan pada tipe penggunaan heavy users. Sedangkan untuk perangkat, smartphone menjadi alat yang paling sering digunakan dengan besar biaya mengakses dalam kategori paling rendah setiap bulannya. Translation: The purpose of this study was to describe the use of internet GERKATIN deaf community in Surabaya, and the motives that influence the deaf in utilizing their internet. Significance of this study is expected to be a information for the deaf are still not familiar with the internet, so the deaf can utilize it positively. The study was conducted using a quantitative research methods and the type of descriptive research because the researcher intends to generalize the data and analysis. The theory used is the theory of uses and gratification. The method used is the method of survey with 70 respondents obtained by purposive sampling system. The results of this study indicate that the GERKATIN deaf community realize utilization based motives and systems in use of the internet. Based on the five background motive in using the internet, among others; cognitive, affective, personal integration, social integration, and diversion. Deaf most widely use the internet because it is based on the cognitive motives. As for the system of internet use, the most respondents access the internet at home than other places with the frequency of use 7 times a week, and was listed on the type of heavy users. As for the devices, smartphone is the most often used with access cost in the lowest category each month.
